End-to-end engineering on a single platform

Following positive experience with AUCOPLAN, Kanzler VT now relies on the database-driven Engineering Base (EB) engineering platform.

“Instead of having to purchase several different programs, EB provides me with almost all the functions required for effective Process Engineering. This tool forms the basis for all instrumentation and electrical engineering – from creating P&IDs through to disciplines such as the subcontractor’s fire alarm system,” explains Gunter Hadwiger, Head of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Engineering at Kanzler VT.

Previously, a number of incompatible software solutions were used. Changes had to be entered multiple times, resulting in considerable additional effort and an increased risk of errors.

Engineering Base centrally manages objects, changes and third-party documents in a shared database. This ensures that up-to-date, consistent information is available even when several teams are working on a plant in parallel. Engineering Base Instrumentation also enables instrumentation and control engineering, including its logical interconnections, to be integrated directly into the P&ID.

Greater transparency, less effort

Using this shared database, the electrical engineers create loops, overview diagrams and cable routes with Engineering Base. Integrated cable routing supports precise and cost-efficient production. Lengths and dimensions are calculated automatically, making it significantly easier to accommodate changes.

Combined with calculations of material requirements as well as production and installation costs, Engineering Base provides additional transparency across the entire project.

“With Engineering Base, we have a tool that has significantly reduced potential sources of error in planning. This saves us an enormous amount of time and effort from planning through to commissioning, resulting in considerable cost savings,” says Gunter Hadwiger.
