Standard PLM Connector for Engineering Base

Company-wide availability of engineering data

Your advantages at a glance:

  • - Automated comparison of Engineering Base and PLM
  • - Significantly fewer sources of error
  • - Greater consistency in company data
  • - Minimal synchronization effort
  • - Rapid, efficient availability of engineering data
  • - System-based data exchange between the different engineering disciplines
  • - Significant saving of time and increase in quality

Challenge

In current, highly competitive global markets, leading companies need to develop and offer first-class products. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) provides comprehensive support for this requirement as a company-wide PLM system promotes product and process innovation by presenting decision-makers with precisely the information that they need to make intelligent decisions which lead to better products. PLM systems enable companies in all industries to manage increasingly complex products, thus maximizing productivity and optimizing global business functions.

Once the individual engineering departments in companies have optimized their efficiency to the maximum using modern processes and tools, a further increase in efficiency can only be achieved over the long term via networking and interdisciplinary cooperation. The manual transfer of data from engineering to PLM and vice versa is far too time-consuming and prone to errors.

Solution

The Standard PLM Connector for Engineering Base (EB) enables the integration of engineering into the company-wide processes and thus forms the basis for a comprehensive increase in efficiency. The Connector manages to easily link the latest engineering to PLM.

Instead of users having to enter the relevant data several times, it is exchanged automatically between the two systems via simple file interfaces. Transmission errors are eliminated, and the data quality increases.

New projects that are created in PLM are also automatically created in EB, including all project features contained in PLM. In addition, EB automatically receives changes to these features directly.

The same applies to materials. During a comparison, EB automatically stores all new materials, which were created in PLM, in its data model. If there are any changes to the materials in PLM, they are automatically transferred in turn to EB.

The PLM system automatically receives EB BOMs and documents as soon as the user initiates the transfer simply at the touch of a button.

Benefits

The automated data transfer between Engineering Base and PLM ensures a secure comparison of the data available in both systems. Furthermore, there is a significant reduction in inconsistencies in the engineering data stored in the company's PLM, with the synchronization of both systems requiring minimal manual effort at the same time. The data created in EB is quickly and efficiently available in the entire company via the PLM system to all people who need access. In addition, the BOM comparison between the various engineering disciplines allows a system-based data exchange that follows the processes realized in PLM.

Scope
The following points outline the scope of the standard solution in EB. It can be customized with any number of additional functionalities (for example, order BOMs, CRM integration, etc.). In this context, AUCOTEC can draw on a wealth of experience that it was able to gain in collaboration with partners and customers.

Note: The integration into the respective PLM system is not included.

Material master data
The PLM system leads in terms of material master data. During the comparison, EB automatically creates materials which were previously created in PLM. Material changes in the PLM system are automatically transferred to EB.

Bills of material (BOMs)
Bills of material can be created at assembly level and as a BOM throughout the entire project, in accordance with the design in EB, and can be transferred to the PLM system.

Project Management
The PLM system specifies the name of an EB project. Each EB project is clearly assigned to a project in PLM and the name specified in the PLM system is also the name of the EB project.

Documents
Document sets can be transferred to the PLM system in groups or throughout the entire project in accordance with the design in EB.
