Model-based Collaborative Engineering of Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Institute

SPIC Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (SNERDI) started at the same time as China Nuclear Power industry. Its main business is nuclear energy R&D, design, engineering construction management and nuclear power station service, and belongs to State Power Investment Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SPIC"). SNERDI independently researched and developed the first Chinese mainland nuclear power station: Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, laying foundation of research and development, design, standards, materials, fuel, equipment, review, talent eight systems of China's nuclear power, known as "the glory of the country."

Plant Model

SNERDI has many design specialties, such as process, instrument control, electrical engineering, HVAC, etc. Before using EB, there were many kinds of design software used by various disciplines, which resulted in the lack of communication bridge between disciplines and between software, thus forming information islands one by one, unable to achieve effective information sharing and ensure the consistency of data. So they began to look for a multi-disciplinary collaborative design software based on object model, and the database and object-oriented architecture of Engineering Base (EB) of Aucotec just meets their needs.

At present, SNERDI has applied EB in the complex system design process of nuclear power plants. Designers carry out multi-disciplinary engineering design work from concept design, process flow design, instrument design, control design, electrical design, HVAC design, etc. on EB platform. In EB, all equipment in the factory can be described comprehensively, and displayed in various types of drawings in various graphics. This graphical and data-based description constitutes the object of database. These objects form a comprehensive factory model in the EB central database that contains all logical links, which can be edited by participants at the same time. The data architecture of object-oriented model ensures the consistency of design data of each specialty.

Unified Database

The 2D design information and data model are stored in the central database of EB. From PFD, P&ID and equipment data sheet of process department to instrument loop diagram and logic diagram of instrument control department, and then to primary system diagram, electrical schematic diagram and layout plan of electrical department, the data and drawings involved in engineering are stored in a unified database, and the main data stored in the database can be used for all engineering projects. The integrated management of database is realized. The database can integrate all specialties into a unified database completely and seamlessly without any interface. In design engineering, different professional users are granted different permissions. After entering EB, they can carry out the corresponding design work. According to the division of labor of designers, they can set the corresponding read and write permissions for different parts of data, which can ensure the safety of data.

Digital Twins

At present, SNERDI is using EB in the research and development of new reactor type such as integrated multi-functional small reactor. EB has a unique object-oriented data architecture, and EB has a great flexibility and openness, which provides a solid data model foundation for digital twin of nuclear power plants.
