Engineering Base at the Building Material Manufacturer Holcim
Mapping of the Entire Workflow
Holcim (Deutschland) AG is a subsidiary of the worldwide operating concern for building materials, Holcim Ltd. Today the strong and autonomous product lines binding agents, gravel and sand as well as concrete are the core business of the consortium. Where desired, the clients moreover are offered complete solutions for building materials and supplementary services. Recently the North German cement plants Lägerdorf and Höver of Holcim (Deutschland) AG have started working with Engineering Base Instrumentation (EB), the branch solution for process control technology of the database-driven and object-oriented tool from AUCOTEC.
Consistent and uncomplicated
When looking for a future-compliant and safe tool for the electrical design of their complex plants, the building material professionals defined two criteria as particularly important: On the one hand the system was to map all areas of process and electrical engineering and at the same time to permit interfaces to the process control and document management systems; all that in a centralized and consistent system that renders duplicate data storage superfluous. On the other hand Holcim needs a software product that is able to map its complete workflow - from the P&I flow diagram via the input of bulk data to software engineering as export to the process control system.
EB scored not only with the fulfillment of these exacting requirements: Its object orientation and the database were also crucial. Additional points were the easy and timesaving integration of the existing data, the consistent interface to external systems and the possibility to link established standards such as SAP, Pro.File or the process control systems PCS 7 V7 from Siemens and ABB's 800xA to EB in a straightforward manner.
Moreover the integrated Microsoft standard products have a pronounced positive effect on handling. The fact that Holcim can work with Visio, VBA and the SQL server has not only strongly accelerated familiarization. According to the feedback from Holcim, daily routine work also proceeds faster due to intuitive operation with known working methods.
