Recommended Hardware of Engineering Base (PC and Server)
Personal Computer
Hardware Processor
  • Intel Pentium 1.2 GHz or faster (recommended: Intel Pentium 2.26 GHz)
  • Min 512 MB (recommended: 2 GB)

Hard Disk
  • Approximately 1.8 GB are needed for the installation of all software components.
  • For a database with 10000 sheets approximately 8 GB of hard disk space are required.

DVD drive
  • required for installation only

Software operating system
  • Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional (SP2)

Components
  • Engineering Base installs Microsoft SQL Server 2005. If SQL Server 2005 is installed already, Engineering Base creates a new instance and installs all required databases and scripts. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is supported, too.
  • Engineering Base installs Microsoft Office Visio 2007 if necessary. Microsoft Office Visio 2003 is supported, too.
Client/Server - Solutions
Engineering Base can be used as a true client/server solution. We recommend running the EB application server and the SQL database server on the same computer.
Engineering Base can therefore be used in LAN and WAN environments.
Server Hardware Recommendations
1. For up to 5 users, we suggest the following components for the server:
  • Processor: 2.8 GHz

  • Operating system: Windows 2003 Server

  • Memory: 4 GB

  • Hard Drive: 2 x 80 GB (1 drive for the SQL Server database file, 1 drive for the SQL Server log file)

2. For up to 20 users, we suggest the following components for the server:
  • Processor: Dual Core Xeon® 3.0 GHz

  • Operating system: Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition

  • Memory: 8 GB

  • Hard Drive: 2 x 80 GB (1 drive for the SQL Server database file, 1 drive for the SQL Server log file)

3. For more than 20 users, we suggest the following components for the server:
  • Processor: Dual Core Xeon® 3.4 GHz

  • Operating system: Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition 64 Bit

  • Memory: 32 GB

  • Hard Drive: 2 x 120 GB (RAID 1, 1 drive for the SQL Server database file, 1 drive for the SQL Server log file)
Remote access to the Engineering Base Database
For working from different locations we suggest accessing the database server with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or another secure connection.
The bandwidth should be at least 2 MBit/s (double DSL). Access and user administration protects the database against unauthorized access.
